Our History
Since 1981, Energy North has built a strong network of fuel brands and dealer relationships that continue to drive our success.


1981
Energy North is born under the guidance of Maurice Langelier, Former Gibbs Oil Executive and President of the gasoline retailers association of Massachusetts. In partnership with Ken Black, they created the foundation for what ultimately has become Energy North.

1985
Enters its first distributor agreement with Citgo Petroleum, quickly becoming one of Citgo’s fastest-growing customers.
1986
Expands its branded portfolio through a Gulf Oil distributorship and acquires a small Texaco distributor in Connecticut — strengthening its wholesale presence across the region.
1994
Opens its first company-operated convenience store in Merrimack, NH, marking its entry into the retail fuel space & convenience store.

1997
A few years later Energy North builds its first ground up site in Everett, MA, displaying Citgo petroleum's Ameristore.

2009
Acquires Draper Oil Company, gaining multiple dealer and company-run locations that further expand both wholesale and retail operations.

2010
Becomes a distributor for Sunoco, acquires M.W. Sewall in Maine, and purchases Sunoco and Valero properties — enhancing its dealer network and geographic reach.

2012
Becomes one of only four Branded Fuel Affiliates (BFAs) for ExxonMobil, solidifying its position as a leading wholesale supplier in the Northeast.

2013-2018
Accelerates growth through key acquisitions: Webber Oil (2013), Concord Oil (2014), Haffner’s Oil (2015), Victory Fuel (2016), Hanscom Oil (2017), Ayer Oil (2018)
2018
Adds six stations across MA and NH, including Mobil™, Gulf®, and the Groton Exchange, now operating under the Haffner’s brand.

2021
Acquires 11 locations from VERC Enterprises and a full-service site in Gilford, NH — further expanding Haffner’s branded retail footprint.

Where We Are Today
Energy North continues to lead in wholesale fuel distribution, offering all major fuel brands, including ExxonMobil, Gulf, Citgo, Sunoco, and Irving.
